MOODY TUNES

A Spotify plug-in inspired by mood rings

WHAT IF SPOTIFY HAD A PLUG-IN THAT MADE YOUR LISTENING HISTORY FUNCTION LIKE A MOOD RING?

MoodyTunes is a concept that pumps all the fun and nostalgia of a y2k mood ring into the way you listen to music. Designed to be a Spotify plug-in, MoodyTunes uses your listening history to reveal your mood. Listening to a lot of sad songs? Your profile may turn completely blue, but add in a few love songs and some hopeful pink will begin to appear.

This use of color gradients not only helps you to keep track of how you are processing your own emotions, but it also adds a social element. Subtle social interactions are created by being able to see how your friends are “really doing”. However, we all know music listening is incredibly personal and should hold a level of privacy. With that being said, “social media elements” are kept to a complete minimum. These features will include the ability to update your profile with a short status to reflect on your listening or send songs to friends. If your friend sees you’ve been blue, they can text you the link to an upbeat and happy yellow tune, but that’s it! There is no DM section or liking, keeping your music listening safe from unwanted conversation, making it an introverts dream. Plus, if you really want to keep it “cryptic” and private, you can turn on private mode, which hides your listening history from others, making your profile appear as colorless. However, you can still view your own listening history in private to keep enjoying the fun of tracking your mood.
